Clinical Experts
Why is Clinical Expert Participation Important?
Clinical Experts and other relevant experts are best positioned to describe how clinical practice works in real-world healthcare settings. This is why the EU HTA Regulation involves clinical experts in both the Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA) and Joint Scientific Consultation (JSC) processes.
As a clinical expert or other relevant expert, you may:
- Share your experience, expectations, or concerns about the condition and currently available treatments.
- Provide input to the assessors when defining the assessment scope, and highlight what matters in the assessment for experts like you (for example, the practicalities of routine clinical care or relevance of clinical endpoints).
- Review reports and say whether they are relevant from a clinical point of view.
- Join short online meetings together with patients and carers if initiated by assessors.
Your expertise helps make sure these processes are based on real clinical practice and a good understanding of the disease, so that the assessments truly reflect what matters to patients and to healthcare professionals.
